Logical Processes
Apply logical processes to formulate clear, defensible ideas based on the analysis of facts and ethical considerations.
Instructional Designers use a variety of models to address specific situations. The models represent logical processes that allow the designer to analyze all facets of a challenge. Models can include:
-
-
- ADDIE
- Dick and Carey
- Understanding by Design
- Rapid e-Learning
-
In this example, the pitch to create an adaptive learning module for experienced admissions professionals uses technology to personalize a course by adapting to each individual learner. Adaptive learning systems use a data driven—and, in some cases, nonlinear—approach to instruction and remediation (Moskal et al. 2017).
The Challenge
Use adaptive learning to reorder learning objectives or to make the module more complex for the learner. My topic: “Communicating for educational programs” targets an experienced audience that brings communication experience into the work.
The Solution
Present to the learner a probe at the beginning of the module to examine mastery on the communication topic.
-
- Learner does not demonstrate mastery
- The module moves forward to help the learner master the granular LO.
- Learner demonstrates mastery
- The module moves forward to gain greater skill!
- Based on the mastery of the subject matter
- Introduce different assessments / multiple learning experiences that focus on different aspects of learning.
- Learner does not demonstrate mastery
